Water, wind and winning ways!

A great result in dismal playing conditions.

Old Boys started on the back foot, conceding an early penalty. This seemed only to spur Old Boys into action and with the hard yards being made by returning front row duo Jon Ellis and Ben Thompson, Old Boys were soon attacking the Stow line and with the constant pressure resulting in a penalty. With proven success last week with a set penalty move, this proved to be fruitful again with the forwards taking the ball up and then great hands through the backline saw Benito Tarantino use his pace to get over in the corner. The conversion was missed.

With Old Boys now firmly controlling possession and camped in the Stow twenty two, a second try was scored through a powerful run by Tarantino who offloaded to the impressive Harry Williams who punched his way over close to the posts. Dan Gombera converted. With Stow now in disarray and mistakes being made, a spilled ball under the posts allowed Niall Galvin to pounce on the loose ball for Old Boys third, the conversion was missed. The half ended with a great break from fullback Dave Lacey, who showed great pace and skill to elude the defenders to score under the posts. The conversion was missed.

The second half started in the same way the first ended. Old Boys with majority of the possession, any attack by Stow was beaten back by some big defensive work, with Dom Chant leading the way. It was from one of these turnovers that Curtis Whitfield had his turn to show his pace from just inside the Stow half sprinting down the touchline to score in the corner. The conversion was missed.

With the weather conditions getting worse, and with Stow depleting in numbers due to injury, it was decided by the referee and captains to end the game fifthteen minutes early.

An excellent team effort in adverse playing conditions. Lets continue with the good form and take it into next week.
