Complete Performance from 2nd XV

Old Boys started strongly and it wasn't long before they opened the scoring from a set penalty move, allowing Neil Williamson to crash over after just two minutes of play, Niall Chandler was unable to add the extras. Old Boys were then caught napping and a quick tap penalty by Stow allowed them to cross over for an unconverted try. That was the last time Stow would come close to the Old Boys line.

The scrums were dominated by the front row consisting of Paul Speed, Dan Moss and Martyn Box, with Dominic Chant and Niall Galvin in the engine room. With many scrums being taken against the head, the odd scrum that was secured by Stow, was cancelled out before they could use the ball, with some great defence around the base from Old Boys scrumhalf Liam Aherne, and great support from his flankers Curtis Whitfield and Herman Van Dyk. Some massive hits came in from Neil Williamson and Dominic Chant in defence.

With so much possession and with the forwards and backs playing in tandom, Old Boys looked dangerous every time they had the ball in hand. Further tries came from Benito Tarrantino showing his pace to cross the line three times, Curtis Whitfield who had an excellent all round game, Zac Pitt with his persistence finally paying off, Daniel Gombera with a little show and go, but the best try has to be that of Martyn Box. He somehow managed a pirouette within a metre space, which would have made Swan Lake proud, and dived over for a try in the corner.

With regular goal kicker James Locke unavailable, the kicking was a bit hit and miss. One try was converted by Liam Aherne and another being kicked by Daniel Gombera.

The whole team played well and it was good to see both backs and forwards playing well together, with everyone working well in defence and supporting each other in attack. It was hard to pick a man of the match with the whole team playing so well together, so I put it to Garth Le Roux who was spectating this week to pick his man of the match. Well done to Daniel Gombera (pictured).
