A Hard Fought Win

Another great result away from home for Old Boys.

Scoring was opened by Jamie James from a driving maul set just inside Old Cryptians 22 from a lineout. Curtis Neal added the extras. A chance was then left begging when good ball retention and movement down the line saw Ross Hannaford break the line with a clear run in, but for reasons only known to him.... decided to cut back inside and run into the fullback, resulting in him being awarded the illustrious 'Dick' of the day award before the game was even 15mins in.

The first period saw both teams applying pressure on one another, from the resultant pressure on the Old Cryptians line and advantage being played to Old Boys, Curtis Neal was able to hammer home a drop goal from just outside the 22.

With Old Cryptians on the attack and looking threatening out wide, they moved the ball at every opportunity, but making up for his early error, Ross Hannaford made the interception and ran half the length of the pitch to touch down under the posts. Mr Neal slotted the conversion.

Great hands between forwards and backs saw the impressive Matt Price, who was on loan from Gordan League, score in the corner, Curtis Neal was unable to add the extras.

The second period again was an even contest with both teams attacking at every opportunity. Great defence from both teams, but especially Old Boys inside their own half, led by man of the match Dominic Chant (pictured), kept tries to a minimum. Curtis Neal took advantage of a penalty mid way through the half.

Old Boys shifted the ball quickly to returning winger Will Young, who, although suffering with a bad bout of man flu, was able to show off his pace from just inside the Old Cryptians half and race down the side lines to score in the corner. Curtis Neal was unable to add the extras.

The last period of the game saw Old Boys defending their line to keep Cryptians at bay. Great defence again and game management from James Locke at nine and Curtis Neal at ten, saw Old Boys gain a turnover and with time up, the ball kicked of play.

A great game and great contest. The next time these teams meet, it will be in the combination cup in April.
