After a frustrating couple of weeks having strong performances but not getting the results, Old Boys took on Cheltenham Saracens who we're coming in off a good run of form, and saying themselves it was going to take a very good team to beat them.

It was a mixed start with both teams making multiple handling errors, but early on old boys set the mark in the scrum dominating up front which they continued to do the whole game, and on the 15 minute mark the deadlock was broken when Luke Dilley broke off the back of a scrum and offloaded to number 9 Sam Thompson, who shifted it onto winger Jamie Fairs who made little work of his opposite man from 10 metres out and got over in the corner for the opening try. From there both teams had chances to score, throughout the whole game Saracens were shying away from taking any shots at goal and often kicked for the corners instead, and only strong defence kept them from scoring on a number of occasions. The next score came 5 minutes before half time, winger Jamie Fairs was again involved but this time with a very impressive assist, getting the ball between the opposition 10 and 22, he barged his way through numerous attempted tackles with the help of some of his pack, before giving the offload to hooker Joe Shelton to give him a run in, and the score was 10-0 at the half.

With all the elements behind Old Boys in the second half they made the perfect start, where some great hands eventually giving captain Greg Padfield a bit of space which he took full advantage of and run the ball in for old boys third, this would have been a brilliant try overall if Greg hadn't made a very poor attempt at a dive! From here old boys didn't take their foot off the gas and would have scored more if not for some smart defence on their own line from Saracens, who soon after got their first score of the day on the board when they broke from within their own 22 and used their attacking ability out wide to run in their first. This though only seemed to spur old boys on, and in the 55 mark Old Boys had the bonus point when centre Ross Hannaford went in under the sticks, then again 5 minutes later he went in for his second after a brilliant individual run saw him under the posts, Fly Half Curtis Neal converted both these to give Old Boys a 29-7 lead on the hour mark.
Saracens weren't done though and appeared to get a second wind and attacked Old Boys try line with strong intend and were rewarded with 2 good tries in quick succession which took the score to 24-17 with 10 minutes left on the clock. The job was made harder with 5 minutes remaining when Jamie Fairs was giving a yellow card for infringements at the ruck, and in the final play of the game Saracens got their 4th try when they again ran it in from deep, giving them both a losing bonus point as well as a try bonus point, which with the way other results went in the league meant they actually went from 2nd to 1st.
