Old boys proud to announce the new coaching team ahead of the 2019/20 season

Gloucester Old Boys can today confirm that Andy Fearn will be stepping up to the role of forwards player/coach next season and will be joining Darrel Minns as he continues his role as backs coach.

Andy has spent 12 seasons in the senior ranks at Old Boys and also spent the whole of his junior career with us. As well as being player/coach Andy was also voted in by the players as club captain for his second stint after captaining the club between the 2011/12 season to 2013/14 season. When asked about it Andy said "I am excited to take my first steps into coaching and I am looking forward to working with the players in my new capacity and hope to have a successful season on and off the pitch"
Darrel Minns will also be continuing his role as backs coach which he started doing mid way through the 2018/19 season and when asked about this role he said "I am glad to be continuing in the role and glad to have Andy Fearn on board". Darrel himself has spent 11 seasons at old boys and having many 1st XV honours along the way.
The pair of them will also be joined this season by Lofty Miller who has agreed to become 1st XV manager to help out with the responsibilities of running the 1st XV.

The club are delighted to be able to make these appointments and have two long term club men who care about the club at the helm. It is no secret last season was a tough one for the club being relegated back into Gloucester 1, but speaking to club chairman Shane Bubb he and others around him believe that there were vast improvements made towards the end of the season and with a couple of signings already in place there will be a vast improvement this season.

On behalf of the club I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Joe Shelton for all he has done for the club over the last 3 seasons. We wish him all the best as he embarks on his new challenge with Old Richians RFC.

Pre season start dates are TBC but we will be starting on the Thursday 30th of May with some touch and a bit of football to get all the team together early.
